In in vitro studies silymarin demonstrated antioxidant activity and the ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation of cellular membranes. Silymarin also helps regulate the balance of prostaglandins in the liver. Prostaglandins are hormone-like molecules that regulate a variety of bodily functions.
